Let’s face it, nobody wants wet weather on their Disney vacation and while rain showers are common, especially during the Summer the months, they are usually short lived. Luckily there are plenty of ways to still enjoy your day at Magic Kingdom and stay fairly dry at the same time – below are some of our favorite tips to escape the rain until the sun returns.
Magic Kingdom has a few attractions that will close when rain, thunder and lightning pass through the park – these rides include Astro Orbiter, Big Thunder Mountain, Dumbo and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, but once the rain passes these lines will be much shorter and I would recommend heading to one of these attractions if you can. Now that we went over which attractions are most likely to close for bad weather, let’s talk about attractions that remain open and keep you out of the elements!
This is one of my favorite attractions when I need to relax and get out of the heat or wet weather – located in Tomorrowland is this 21 minute show about how technology has shaped our modern – day world.
This attraction is located in the big – top tent of Dumbo the Flying Elephant and you can wait out the rain while your kids play in this indoor playground, but the best part is a cast member will give you a pager to hold your place in line for when the rain ends.
Another favorite is this 400 seat comedy club where the audience is also a part of the show and if the queue line is short enough then it won’t stretch outside. This is a nice attraction to relax, laugh and escape the rain or heat.
The queue for this attraction is usually always long, but it’s all covered and entirely air conditioned so this makes for the perfect place to wait out bad weather for this popular attraction.
This show is located in Frontierland and these singing bears are hilarious and a good place to wait out the rain while getting a good laugh in. This was one of the last attractions that Walt Disney helped develop before his death in 1966.
Other Magic Kingdom attractions to escape the Rain
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Rangers Spin

Space Mountain
Mickey’s PhilharMagic
If you don’t feel like hopping on a ride or seeing a show there are some other ways to avoid wet weather while at Magic Kingdom. If you are near Main Street you can walk through all of the shops without ever having to step outside since they are connected to each other. After you are done shopping you can eat a hot dog at Casey’s Corner, grab a Starbucks or check out the Main Street Confectionery.
Fun Fact : Magic Kingdom is home to the “Rainy Day Cavalcade’ which is a smaller parade that runs when the Festival of Fantasy has to be canceled due to bad weather.
Rainy days in Disney World are all what you make them! As long as you come prepared and have an optimistic attitude you can still have a MAGICAL time!
